NYC- 9 things to do!

Its overwhelming when you think of all the things you can to do in New York City. So here are my top 9 MUST do when traveling to New York.

But before I start I want to give a few tips.
1) Bring really really good walking shoes. You will be walking an insane amount (we averaged 25,000 steps/day)
2) Study the Metro/ Subway System before you get there. It was really stressful our first day figuring out the subway! Who knew that the Subway could run 3 levels deep, going every which way!?!
3) Don't go out after dark, after 10 pm anyways...it gets...sketchy. If you are out, get an Uber. Even the Subway drivers have a sign saying they only stop if its safe to do so after 10. Nuff said.

Now onto the good part!

My top recommendations!

1) Broadway Show

This was my # 1 must do. At first my husband tagged along for my benefit, but after the show he said he loved it and wanted to do another one. There was so many options but we decided on Aladdin. Hands down I am so so happy we went with that. It was so magical, entertaining and the music was amazing. Highly recommend!

2) Brooklyn Bridge

Although it would sometimes get a bit congested, I would walk the bridge again and again. From start to finish the actual walk is around an hour. (Including multiple stops for pictures of course!) The skyline is breath taking and the bridge itself is beautiful!

3) The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met!)

JAW. DROPPING. One of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. It was incredible! Honestly every time we walked into a new exhibit I was speechless. Seeing the history was something I will never ever forget. I'm not even a crazy history buff and throuroughly enjoyed it!

4) Central Park/ Bethesda Fountain

How can you go to New York and not check out Central Park? Its iconic! And also stunning. I also was incredibly naive because its HUGE, at least way bigger than I imagined.  It's was a nice break to stroll through the park and have a calm space in a busy city.

5) 9/11 Memorial

This was so incredibly humbling and there were multiple times I wiped tears from my eyes. Seeing the faces of all the lives lost, seeing their names and the devastation. It was so sad. But what a beautiful way to memorialize all the people that died that day. The heroes that risked their lives. In fact as you walk throughout the exhibit you hear voice clips of fireman and policemen talking in their last moments. You hear cell phones calls from people saying goodbye. You see hundred and thousands of missing posters and letters from kids about the parents they lost. It was touching and made me appreciate everyday I have breath in my lungs.

6) Carlos Bakery/ Hoboken

Now don't get me wrong, I understand this may not be on everyones wishlist, but I LOVE watching Buddy on TLC! They do have a location in Times Square but I wanted the authentic experience. So off we went to Hoboken, New Jersey. And can I just say that I loved Hoboken. Its incredibly family friendly with a lot of cute shops and walkways with beautiful paths along the water. We also discovered Pier 13 and they sell drinks by the water. I loved this place. It was a nice change of pace from CRAZY NYC.

7) Time Square

Everyone says that you stay in Times Square for like 10 seconds, grab some pics and hightail outa there. But not I! I loved it. Was it crowded? Yes. But the lights, the shopping? Amazing! We hit up M&Ms world in Times Square, it has 3 floors of M&M goodies...3 FLOORS! So fun!

8) AMC Empire 25
Now I get it, who goes to New York and goes to a movie theatre? Well we did. Hah! We were exhausted, our feet and legs ached and we wanted to chill. We ended up watching Crazy Rich Asians. The theater itself was crazy! We went up 4 escalators just to get to our theatre. (and it went up further still) By far the biggest theatre I have ever been too. The seats were oversized and really comfy. And to be honest? It was the perfect way to relax and unwind for a bit! So if you need to rest them aching bones? Hit up a movie!

9) Chelsea Market
A fun place to go shopping and taste a lot of different (and amazing food) they have clothing, home decor, fresh spices and pretty much everything in between!  The whole feel of the market is fun! If you are headed there do yourself a favour and go to Los Tacos #1 and grab some tacos!

Are you planning a trip to NYC? What do you want to see most?
