California February 2018

Wow time really got away from me the last couple of months. I had meant to post about this a LONG time ago!

Here is a recap of my trip to Carlsbad/ San Deigo, California! This was the first time I had ever left my kids, but it was a great recharge for me. I got to tag along for a work conference for my dads company.  Kudos to my husband for totally nailing it at home. And also my dad for winning an award!

(At the awards dinner)

Carlsbad, California

We stayed at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad. Its over 4500 acres in total and has a few golf courses. To be honest it felt like its own little town. There were multiple restaurants and a shopping areas, along with over 8 pools!

Not going to lie though it was COLD. Like I was shivering without a jacket during the day cold...definitely not the warm Californian escape I was expecting. HA! But I really can't complain because it was a treat to see flowers and palm trees in the winter. Normally I would not stay at a place like this because its $$$$.

The one restaurant there was del-ish. It was called The Vue and the burger I had there was seriously one of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend if you are ever in that area! (the restaurants are open to the public) The shopping was also $$$ so it was more of a browsing than buying situation there. We hit up the Ross Dress for less store which was only 5 minutes away from the resort. lol

Now on to food, which is really the best part of trips? Am I right?!? We found this totally delicious restaurant about 15 minutes away called Dons Country Kitchen. Not only was the staff really friendly and accommodating, the portions were large, tasty and priced really well! It was so good that we went 2 times.

Also fresh strawberries from California. Dead. They truly put the fruit we get up here to shame. They were totally amazing!

San Diego
We decided to extend our trip a few days and look around the San Diego area. One of the highlights of my trip was La Jolla cove (pronounced Hoi- ya) it had ocean views, seals, cliffs, tide pools and honestly stunning views. If you are in the area I say this is a must see.

USS Midway was another stop we made. The war ship they have stationed there is massive. Its way bigger than I could have imagined! You can go aboard and check it all out as well

Balboa Park. If you are into the arts then Balboa Park is for you! There are over 15 Museums within the park, along with gardens, restaurants and a whole host of other really unique things. Heading there I didn't realize the sheer size of the park, its massive! So we took a trolly to get around from area to area.

Food in San Diego
To be honest the first night we got there we picked up Taco Bell lol I actually had a fever at this point and felt horrible so I wasn't really in the mood to do a sit down.

The next day we did stop at a place called Aunty Ems Pancake house. There had really amazing pancakes for a really good price!

AND of course we couldn't go all the way down to Cali and NOT go to Disney.

Honestly the DOLE WHIP is life. YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE!

Im so sad that the last 3 days of my trip I was so sick because I really missed out on trying all the things I had wanted to, (mainly finding good Mexican food) but overall it was a wonderful getaway with some awesome quality time with my parents!

Have you been to California?? What was your favourite part?

Thanks for reading!
