Veiled In Smoke - Book Review

Wow. 😍

Now if you dont want any spoilers...please stop reading now. Know that I give this book ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and that I reccomend reading it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I love how Jocelyn was able to add real historical facts into this novel. It's actually something I love in books because I'm able to learn history. Usually I look into the events after I've finished reading a book to learn more!

 Anyways...back to the book!

This book really struck a chord with me. Megs father struggles with mental illness after suffering through a prison camp during the war. He is diagnosed with what they termed "soilders" heart. Meg and her sister take care of their father as best as they can.

Things go sideways when a great fire hits Chicago and Meg loses everything. Including the use of her hands which were seveverly burned. (This problematic as shes an artist.) To top it all off her father is found guilty of murder and thrown into an terminally insane institution. 😯

I loved Meg's character, she was so likeable. Caring, tenderhearted, persistent, resilient just to name a few. Maybe I liked her so much because for once there was a main lead that didnt let her "disfigurement" distract her for long. Was she upset over her hands being severely burned, yes! But she did not let that stop her from picking right back up with her art or from falling in love.

Her sister also has a parallel storyline throughout but I would say the main "love" is between Meg and her beau.

This story had twists and turns and constantly had me guessing who the murderer was! Just when I thought I had it figured out, Jocelyn would throw in another twist that would leave me guessing again. Veiled in Smoke was a wonderfully written book and I would definitely recommend this one!

Thanks so much for reading!!

Megan
